We Love Our Customers

In 'We Love Our Customers’, Stefanie Moshammer explores clothing from various angles, playing with the perception of our contemporary consumer culture and brand imagery.
Starting with online research, Moshammer drew inspiration from so called “Shopping Haul" videos on platforms like YouTube, TikTok, and Instagram, where bargain hunters showcase their cheap finds.
She then embarked on a journey to investigate clothing's lifecycle, traveling to the US, particularly New York, known for overconsumption, and later to Haiti, where discarded Western clothing either serves the local population or ends up in landfills.
Using materials from these trips, as well as recycled materials from Europe, Moshammer worked on photographs and installations. She aimed to humorously simulate an aestheticized fashion image resembling a fashion editorial. Furthermore, Moshammer examined how technology and algorithms influence consumer decisions, incorporating computer-generated imagery to represent distorted consumer figures. She transformed these digital portraits into tangible 3D objects through analog processing, introducing deliberate imperfections to challenge the pursuit of perfection.
Throughout 'We Love Our Customers’, Moshammer deliberately manipulates both material and content.
The project offers a thought-provoking reflection on contemporary consumer culture and the evolving influence of the digital era.
